Instagram's UX Problems

Thanks to the almighty Facebook, Instagram, which used to be a home for the average hipster that took fabulous shots of buildings and mountains, is now home to people taking pictures of their weed and their 18 children with their baby daddies.

But even with filtering out all of that filth, Instagram still has some problems that cannot be avoided. There are problems with Instagram's UX (User Experience) and I for one have dealt with these problems on multiple occasions and maybe you have as well.

Really? LIKERS?

Really? LIKERS?

First off whenever more then 10 people like someone's post, the list of the users who liked it goes away. (For organizational purposes) This is completely understandable and if it wasn't there, you would have to scroll a lot more than necessary on your feed.

But when you click on list to see who liked it, you are taken to another pageview with the title "LIKERS." Likers? Are you serious? What about Fans? Or just "LIKES" for that matter?

WHICH ONE IS IT???

WHICH ONE IS IT???

Whenever I go to my profile view I immediately notice a gear icon and what does that say to my brain? Settings. Where I can edit my profile and info if need be. But when I tap on that icon I'm taking to this page that gives me what I didn't want or was looking for.

So in order to get to your destination, you are going to have to look past the obvious use of the gear icon and look for "Edit Your Profile" which sometimes can be skipped if you don't know what your looking for.

Oh look at me, I'm about to write a nicely worded comment to this guy who probably does not care if I do or not.

And finally, here I am trying to write out a nice comment on a shot and I want to include their username so they can get a notification saying that I commented on their shot. But at this precious moment in time I have forgotten this person's username. So I go back to the photo and find out their username and when I go back to comment I get this...

ARE YOU KINDING ME. FUUUUUUUUU

ARE YOU KINDING ME. FUUUUUUUUU

A blank comment box. All my hard work in writing that message is now gone. Great.

I know this may seem a little overblown but what would you do if you had written a long message to your best friend who has just saved a parakeet's life by giving it mouth-to-mouth and was so excited that they decided to Instagram it? If you forgot their username, you're screwed. Bye bye thoughtful comment/friendship/life.

All of these problems can easily be changed and if they are I think they can definitely solidify Instagram's stature as one of the best apps out there.

Oh yeah and follow me on Instagram.

***UPDATE***

Just to point out to people saying this article is stupid and irrelevant; these problems are related to what I am experiencing with Instagram. I will still love Instagram for what it is, and won't go away from it because of these little problems with their app. These problems are just a few that bother me, and trust me there are many more. Thank you to the people contributing to the discussion in the comments below. Check them out if you are still interested on talking about this topic.

Have a good day.
